What are the Benefits of FreeSWITCH?

freeSWITCH is an alternative VoIP solution developed in 2006 to improve stability and scalability. It has many benefits when compared to the competition, especially the platform of which is spun off from- Asterisk.

Performance:

Official numbers are never actually released, various sources for the information are available and have reported with numerous improvements- 4 to 10 times increase on the number of supported concurrent calls.

Stability:

FreeSWITCH was designed so that each call has unique control of its own resources, and that shared resources are managed by core functionality through a layered API.

Language Versatility:

FreeSWITCH is written and coded in C and is made to support popular and well known languages and applications like JavaScript, C++, Lua, .NET, Python and Perl.

Configuration/Design:

FreeSWITCH is based upon an XML configuration, Whilst there there are other available open source applications available that can simplify tasks for FreeSWITCH, however; XML has an advantage in automating it’s tasks. FreeSWITCH also allows increased support for regular expressions, and more call properties against which to match, allowing for an improved dial-plan design.

More Possibilities:

As the author of FreeSWITCH, Anthony Minnesale, has stated that it “is an open source soft switch”. “For performance, stability and versatility reasons, It is the right tool for a diverse VOIP solution”.
